GREENVILLE — Dorothy “Dot” Harris Stroud, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 28, 2009.Born on Harris Road in the Piedmont community on September 7, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Carey Rhodes Harris and John Davis Harris. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, William Hugh Stroud, Sr. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Emmie Patricia Hartwell and Carolyn Harris Chambers and by a brother, William Rhodes Harris.Mrs. Stroud was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for 35 years. In recent years, Mrs. Stroud attended Buncombe Street United Methodist Church. In addition to her love of God, Mrs. Stroud also had a strong love of country. A devout patriot, she was a longtime member of the Greenville County Republican Women’s Club, the Piedmont Chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonists, the United Daughters of the Confederacy Chapter #51 and the Retired Officers’ Wives’ Club.Affectionately known as “Moma Dee-Dot,” Mrs. Stroud was a devoted mother and the proud matriarch of her family. She possessed a strong love of life and family and along with her husband created many wonderful memories hosting annual family vacations to Edisto Beach and Maggie Valley. She will be remembered by her family for her steadfast love and loyalty, her fun loving personality, and her lovely smile that could light up a room.Mrs. Stroud was blessed with many lifelong friends including those from her childhood in Piedmont, from her churches and social organizations, especially The Lamplighter’s Dance Club, and from her many years residing in Swansgate. As a member of the Poinsett Club, she enjoyed celebrating many of her annual birthday luncheons there with dear friends. Mrs. Stroud loved to sing, dance, work in the garden and study her family ancestry. She was a woman of grace, courage, patience and strength and will be missed by all.
